Manufacturing with a Purpose

What if there was a company that specialized in the repurposing of old textile fibers into new materials?

Pain Points on the Textile Industry

  • Textiles do not just cover the fashion industry, but also the industrial market as well. The products are also used within the sanitary, medical, and automobile field.

  • The industry is well known for its exploitation, ill-treatment of factory workers, and in the worst cases, death. This is often due to competition which leads to companies trying to cut corners.

  • Today, the textile industry has reached an all-time high in relation to its waste production. Americans come at the top, throwing away a total of 17 million tons of textiles a year.

What Now?: Textile Recycling/Reproduction

  1. Competition

The industry is known to be highly fragmented, meaning there are no dominant players within the industry allowing for easy infiltration.

  2. Repurposing

Repurposing is largely undiscovered other than through the uses of cellulose material (cotton and wool).

  3. Processing

The developed process uses natural fibers in a dissolving process to create a pulp-based material. This is also what the industry uses to make viscose, lyocell, modal, and acetate.

  4. Weaving

Fabrics can be woven or non-woven, depending on the method used to produce the material, meaning the threads do not need to be long to be used.

Desired Outcome

The main objective in marketing this product/service is to relay it as affordable and sustainable. In doing this, we are creating something that is both cheaper & helping our environment.

Targeting the idea of a product for a select group of individual entities that are educated, conscious, and up-to-date, could allow for their desire to be a part of an exclusive market to flourish as the desire for change in the realm of the environment has become increasingly important.

Wide-scale use of the product coinciding with future market growth would allow for increased trust and satisfaction with the materials. This could allow for global change regarding the scale at which textile waste is being produced.
